Let’s face it! When you coach youth soccer, it becomes a challenge to come up with challenging and interesting drills for the kids. The biggest challenge in teaching soccer is being creative enough to come up with great ideas so that the interest of the kids is sustained in the game.

Following are some drills that you can teach youth soccer players. These help them not just focus on the game, become proficient in soccer, but also enjoy the game.

Engage the boys in dribbling and shooting: This is a simple practice that engages all the players. Have the kid’s line up on the single goal line. Now, spread the balls all over the soccer field. Then, make the kids move with the ball as if they are attacking the opponent’s goal. They should shoot the ball as soon as they can.

This drill helps them build stamina, confidence, and also improves their dribbling skills. Since the kids do not have any opposition while they dribble, it also brings out their individual style.

How to pass the ball: Ask the kids to stand in a line at a far-away corner of the field. Count till 3 and as soon as you finish, instruct them to run towards you as fast as they can. When they are running for you, they also have to capture the ball from the other player who has the possession of the ball. When you say stop, the player who has the ball must pass it to another player.

When you coach youth soccer, these games make the kids showcase their best skills in passing and dribbling. At the same time, they learn the skill of clinching the ball from others which is also vital.

Touch and Go: A game full of fun that kids just love to play it. It requires the kids to stand in two rows under 40 meters away from the position of the goal. Besides, the goalpost should be defended by the goalie. Place yourself somewhere between the two queues.

The ball should then be passed on to any one row to subsequently pass or shoot the ball with just one contact. The intention should be to switch the ball into goal. Now the goalie should return the ball and continue with the practice.

If you have more than one goalkeeper in the team, keep them alternating between different sessions. This sport enables players to perk up their shooting skills through team effort. The goalkeeper becomes skilled at protecting the ball from converting to a goal.

Keeping the ball with you: Players get to learn the skill of moving ahead with the ball protecting it from the opposite team. Engage two players, one protecting the ball and the other attacking it. Guide them to play their respective roles and win points every time any player wins over the other.

All About Soccer Rules

For those that are inexperienced in the game, understanding basic soccer rules can be rather a challenge. Calls manufactured by referees may appear biased, some moves may appear illegal, and it could be just plain annoying to be in the dark about what is going on on. Below you will find a few of the basic soccer rules concerning the use of hands that will help you to understand and enjoy the next game you watch.

The most basic of soccer rules is the one that most people already know: Players aren’t supposed to use their hands unless they are the goalie. However, there’s a little more to this rule than meets the eye. In soccer, the hand rule applies to any part of the body from the shoulder to the fingertips. It might be more exactingly outlined as a no arms rule vs a no hands rule, but it’s what it is.

If a ball is kicked and happens to hit a player’s hand, then this is okay. This would be considered unintentional handling. However, if the player were to proceed to handle the ball in a purposeful manner, this would be considered an illegal move. A referee would have to use his best judgment to establish if hand contact with a ball was random or purposeful.

Even though the hand rule is one of the most basic soccer rules, it can seem a little confusing at times. As an example, it is accepted the goal tender is the sole player who is legally authorized to deal with the ball with his hands. However, there are certain eventualities in which it is not legal for even the goal tender to touch the ball with his hands.

This is often referred to as the back-pass rule. Under this rule, the goal tender can’t handle a pass that came from one of his team member. In this position he’d have to use his feet to deal with the ball.

This is in no way an exhaustive look at all the basic soccer rules. However, this should give you a good start for understanding the game of soccer. There are numerous more detailed rules that explain other facets of soccer beyond the boundaries of this article.

You Can Leap Higher By Working out Less

Are you serious about your vertical leap training?

Correct training to increase your vertical jump is very COUNTER INTUITIVE.

Vertical jumping is an explosive act caused by the sudden contraction of fast twitch muscles.  Because of this, vertical jump training should be “anaerobic.”  All too often athletes are training in a way that trains] mostly their “aerobic” [ability.

How is training different for the two?

Basketball players have been told that running cross country would increase their vertical. This is huge misconception. Running long distances like that can make your vertical leap to shrink.

Sprinting, like jumping is a more anerobic exercise.  Do you see [a sprinter distance running to train for sprinting? NEVER! Then why so often do vertical leap programs have us PACING ourselves during our vertical jump training regimes?

NEVER NEVER NEVER PACE YOURSELF [WHILE!

Maybe you have also seen these before. Athletes "running the stairs" or dog tired from doing speed ladder drills. Or maybe get done jumping rope for 20 minutes and you are worn out.. you are going to say to yourself, "Now that was a hard workout, surely that will increase my vertical."

Can England Win The World Cup?

The England footie team are in a rich veign of form. The team which is now managed by Fabio Capello is playing with lots of confidence and to their strengths, pressing teams, playing with passion and pace. In this article I will explain just why England can and will win the football World Cup in 2010.

I am not involved within professional football; I personally work selling external doors; I also offer a cheap mobile calls service and sell cheap hotel deals.

England have beaten Croatia in their own back yard, four goals to one. They played quite superbly and taught their opponents a lesson in football. The Croatian team have been somewhat of a bogey team for England and it sure felt good to lay that ghost to rest with a comprehensive four - one win.

Capello is getting the best out of the team at the moment with the majority of the players plying their trade in the Premier League which is probably the most competitive league in the world. For some reason previous England teams played a rather slow continental type game, why? It really makes no sense at all. Capello has realised this and the players are now chasing down each ball, winning the fifty-fifty challenges and playing as if their lives depended on it.

The English press and supporters have been very critical of the team over the last few years, quite rightly so as they have not been playing anywhere to the levels that they should be. The negative reaction has been more to do with the apparent lack of effort and passion, it was if they did not care. This was just not acceptable and hopefully has changed for good.

A successful English football team can lift the whole country and if the players can win the World Cup in 2010 they will be national heroes for life. Come on lads, you can do it.

Players like Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Theo Walcott and Ashley Young will be the catalyst to victory in South Africa, I am convinced about it.
